Website Design Philosophy

When I design websites, my primary focus is to provide an enjoyable experience for your visitors. This is accomplished through easy-to-understand navigation and attractive user interfaces. Although many websites try to wow visitors with flashy graphics and animations, this often detracts from your website's primary goals (selling products, information distribution, etc.).

Design Process

I believe that it is very important to understand your goals for your website before I design it. Once I have a firm understanding of your preferences, then I can move forward and build some design prototypes for you to evaluate. By following this iterative, back-and-forth process, your end product will satisfy your expectations and your budget.

Design Experience

I have over ten years of experience designing websites and other forms of digital communicative media. The focus of my research and work has been on user-centered design (putting the user first). Because my background is in cognitive and perceptual psychology and human-computer interaction, I have a firm understanding of how people will interact and understand your website. My past projects have been with a wide variety of clients, each presenting their own unique challenges. They have included extremely complex, interactive data-driven applications, very simple static webpages, and graphically intense animations. My site designs have been widely praised by my clients and their sites' visitors.

Technical Capabilities

My websites utilize a number of technologies, though I strongly believe in the saying, "Purpose predicates process", meaning what software or language your site is created in is not as important as making sure the end result accomplishes your goals for your website.

With that said, my skills include languages such as PHP, ASP, ASP.NET, JavaScript, HTML, Java, CSS, and XML. Graphics tools I use include Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Macromedia Flash, and Adobe InDesign. I have designed complex databases using MySQL and SQL Server.
